Meet a handful of the exceptional teachers who are fueling the future in classrooms across the city.
Andy teaches pre-AP English to sophomores at Lee Senior High School. He has been teaching since 2012.
I want kids to think for themselves.
Some of my students want to be neurosurgeons, some want to be published authors, and others want to be lawyers or engineers. My goal is to help all of them become effective communicators who can question things and reason and problem-solve.
A big part of my classroom and my dynamic is teaching my students to show up, to produce a certain quality of work, and to be their own advocates because I want them to think for themselves.
There is so much room for growth here.
MISD recognizes people who have potential and gives them the opportunity to invest their talents. My principal has never once told me “no” when I’ve wanted to try something new. He's always given me the chance to grow in my career, whether in the classroom or through extracurriculars. MISD is the perfect place for teachers who are looking for a wide variety of opportunities and who don’t want to be pigeon-holed into one specific thing.
